Our Q&A session with the owner provides lots of interesting, little-known details about the home, so be sure to check it out!

-What drew you to your home vs. any of the others that were on the market at that time?
I looked at more than 30 homes in Dilworth and the surrounding neighborhoods when I was in search of a new home The thing I loved most about my house is that it had been completed renovated and felt like a new home, yet was still in the historical part of the neighborhood. I also loved that it had a full, finished basement, ample closet space, a driveway and five bathrooms in the main house! All of these are unique features to have in historical Dilworth.

-What quirks of special features have you come to love?
One of the more talked-about rooms in the house is the closet that is shared by my daughter and any guests we have. It’s quite large and has the exposed brick of the chimney coming right through the center of the room. After you move through the closet, you come to this really neat little playroom that sits over the front porch. It provides my daughter with her own little getaway area.

-Have any recent renovations or rehab work been completed to your home?
The whole house was renovated in 2007, with over 2,500 square feet more living space added. After I moved in in October 2007, I had the built-in cabinets in the main TV room added, as well as the bench seating in the kitchen and the built-in book shelves in both office areas. My father built the bar in the basement in 2008.

The garage was completed in 2012 with a tw0-bedroom guest house above it, adding another 900+ square feet of living space which included two bedrooms, a full bathroom & kitchen.

-What are some of your favorite shops/restaurants/services in the neighborhood?
There are too many to count in Dilworth. I love being able to walk to 300 East, Bonterra, Copper, The Liberty, Tyber Creek Pub, Sullivan’s, Dilworth Billiards and East Boulevard Bar &Grill (as well as many others). Latta Park and Freedom Park are both within walking distance, and the light rail is two blocks away. We can walk or ride bikes to the Panther’s games. My daughter’s school is just two blocks away. I walk to get my hair cut at T. Reid. The convenience factor is just incredible!

-Are there any memories that stick out as especially fond over the years that you’ve spent there?
I knew I had made the right decision on a house and neighborhood the week I moved in. It was Halloween week and our block has a tradition of closing off the street the Saturday before Halloween for a huge party. My daughter and I were invited to participate, which included games and bounce castles for the kids, kegs for the adults and tons of food for anyone passing by. It was exactly the kind of street and neighbors I’d hoped to have.

-Any other interesting facts that your neighbors or the community would find fun or interesting?
The neighbors that haven’t been in the house would probably be surprised by how big it is inside. The builder did a wonderful job of keeping the curbside view understated, which I love. People are always surprised to find out I have a finished basement, which serves as a great “man cave”. It’s equipped with a huge bar and TV, as well as a salt shuffleboard table, dartboard and card table. It’s a great spot for friends and family to enjoy.
