Dilworth Business Series: Charlie on Park
Charlie on Park is a custom jewelry brand designed by local Dilworth artisan, Amber Brown. Amber and I met “the old fashioned way” – on Instagram. I felt an instant connection with her as I scrolled through her page and knew she would be a great fit for the Dilworth Business Series! Here’s my Q&A with Amber:
When did you start Charlie on Park? I started making jewelry in 2011, mainly to give as gifts and have a creative outlet. After years of building my craft, Charlie On Park was launched in January 2017.
What do you love about the Dilworth Neighborhood? Oh, I love so much about this neighborhood. I’ll start by saying, my husband and I came from a smaller scale “Dilworth” called Riverview, in Chattanooga, TN. We love the old bungalows, the front porches, large crown molding, character and charm old homes have to offer.
When looking to move to Charlotte and searching for homes, we knew instantly Dilworth was our place, on the very first street we drove down! The convenience, walkability, canopy of trees, front porch sitting neighbors, restaurants we can ride our bikes to….it’s the best!
And may I just mention the incredible neighborhood school we have? Every single time, without fail, I walk in to volunteer, or have lunch with my daughters, I see several parents in the hallway giving their time to make our school the best it can be. The energy there is off the charts and I could not be more proud of our Dilworth Dragon family.
Where is your go-to lunch or dinner spot? We take full advantage of Dilworth’s location and eat out quite a bit! With 3 kids, Brixx is a winner. We also love Frans Filling Station (kids eat free now on Mon & Tues and I love her Kale salad) and frequent Green Brothers Juice for acai bowls, smoothies and juices (It’s all delicious- you can’t go wrong).
What sets you apart from other local artisans? Over the years, my jewelry design time has morphed into quite a prayerful time for me (which is great because again, I have 3 kids)! While designing and creating, I study my music (I sing at Covenant Presbyterian) by listening to the songs and scripture. When I sit down to do a custom piece, if the customer is willing to share with me, I’ll receive prayer requests, to intentionally pray for the recipient. I find great joy in sharing a song I was studying, as I made their custom piece. When I’ve made a non custom order piece, I’ll name it based off of a song or message that touched my heart.
What else would you like the community to know about Charlie on Park? It’s my hope that each person wearing something I’ve made, feels all the love (and good juju) that went into making it.
