Come along for a fun Q&A as we interviewed the owners…
Q: How long has your business been in Charlotte? Dilworth? A: Paper Skyscraper has been in business and in Dilworth for more than 22 years.
Q: Why did you choose Dilworth over other areas of Charlotte for your location? A: We opened as a bookstore for architects, graphic & product designers, artists and anyone with an interest in the visual arts. As it is today, Dilworth was home to many of those people and their businesses, offices and studios.
Q: What have you come to love about the neighborhood? A: Number one–the residents of Dilworth. They embraced Paper Skyscraper from day one and continue to support us today. It has been gratifying to be a part of such a vibrant neighborhood.
Q: What is your favorite lunch/dinner spot in Dilworth? Favorite shop? A: We don’t really do “favorites.” There are so many choices right on East Boulevard. If I’m feeling like sitting outside an sipping glass of wine we head to 300 East or Brixx. Indian? Copper is fantastic. Just want a hotdog or a burger and a beer, then it’s JJ’s Red Hots or Bad Daddy’s.
Q: Have you made any partnerships or good working relationships with other Dilworth businesses or vendors? A: We do not have any formal partnerships with other businesses in Dilworth, but take every opportunity to send clients to any neighborhood business we are familiar with.
Q: What do you think sets you apart from other specialty shops in Charlotte? A: We travel a lot. When we do we often check out local retailers regardless of what they sell. We find fantastic body products shops, great bookstores, cute gift shops and gourmet shops. What we do at Paper Skyscraper is bring all that under one roof. We have a designers’ eye and a wry sense of humor and we mix it all together. Where else can you find a fantastic collection of Architecture and Interior Design books and a rubber chicken in the same store?
Q: What has been your favorite experience/most surprising experience about being located in Dilworth or having Dilworth residents as clients? A: Well, we’ve made a lot of friends in Dilworth and that is very gratifying. And we’ve been here long enough to have watched kids grow into adults and start their own families, which is fantastic.
Q: What else would you like the community to know about Paper Skyscraper? A: After all these years we are still having fun.
